Railway duplication

project

Planit won a joint tender to undertake detailed ecological surveys and impact assessments associated with the duplication of the Gold Coast Railway between Coomera and Helensvale. Targeted surveys and assessments were performed for matters of national environmental significance which were incorporated into a referral pursuant to the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).

The Gold Coast Rail Line is the only public transport link between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The Coomera to Helensvale section of the rail line is the only single track section remaining on the Gold Coast line. This was causing operating conflict between inbound and outbound services and was constraining the capacity to add additional peak period passenger services. This $163 million project completed the ‘missing link’ on the Gold Coast line and delivered improved reliability for Gold Coast customers, and the capacity for increased services for the 2018 Commonwealth Games and for the future.
