Planit Consulting delivered the design and approvals for the Whian Whian Road Culvert Replacement project on behalf of Lismore City Council.
The project restores an essential rural connection damaged during the 2022 flood events, providing improved safety, access, and flood resilience for the Whian Whian community.
Located in a steep, environmentally sensitive hinterland area, the project required careful coordination of engineering design and environmental management to balance function with protection of surrounding waterways and vegetation.
Our Role
Planit’s multidisciplinary team provided:
• Detailed design for a new reinforced concrete culvert and approach roadworks
• Hydraulic and drainage assessment to improve flow capacity
• Environmental assessment and approval coordination under NSW legislation
• Development of erosion and sediment control measures
• Construction documentation and on-site technical advice during early works
Outcome
Planit’s role in design and environmental approvals is now complete, with construction currently underway. The project will reinstate a critical rural link, enhance flood resilience, and deliver a safe, long-term solution for the community. It represents another example of how Planit’s civil and environmental teams collaborate to deliver practical outcomes in complex regional environments.
